San Antonio Mayoral Election Odds Favor Female
San Antonio is set to choose a new mayor Saturday, following eight years of Ron Nirenberg in charge of the nation's seventh-largest city.
The May 3 ballot includes 27 candidates -- among them four City Council members, a former Under Secretary of the Air Force and a former Texas Secretary of State.
The city hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1995, and the three favorites, according to the odds set by the wagering website BetOnline.ag, suggest that won't change in 2025.
San Antonio has had multiple female mayors during the past 50 years, including Ivy Taylor, who served from 2014 to 2017. Gina Ortiz Jones’ odds below equate to a 67% implied probability of victory.
